BYU vs Utah Game

Emily and I all week were debating about trying to sell our tickets or not. We finally decided to just go and enjoy ourselves because the next time it will be at BYU will be in two years when we will both be seniors and on our last leg of school. Our seats were not bad on the 10 yard line on the east bleachers about 20 rows from the top. We came out hot and it felt good, but then the start of the second half BYU looked flat and that was not good. Emily and I both got scared but we went into OT and I was pretty excited for that. Utah kicked a field goal to go ahead by three. We then got the ball and on our second play Max Hall threw an amazing pass to George who basically walked it in for the touchdown and the win. GO BYU!!!!!!

BUSINESS SCHOOL

I found out on Wednesday that I got accepted into the Marriott Business School of Management. I will be emphasizing in Finance. I am so excited and thank you to everyone for helping with my essay and giving me some needed advice. I appreciate everything that ya'll have done. From what I have heard the Finance program is comparable in hardness to the Accounting program so I am excited about that. It is a two year degree so I will be done in December 2011 but Emily I think will be done in April 2012 so I might hold off on graduation so we can walk together. I start classes next semester, and I meet with a graduation counselor in the business program on Monday. I am so excited and thank you for the prayers and thoughts.

I AM ENGAGED!!!

I am ENGAGED!!! To some in my family that is a huge surprise ha ha ha. I asked Emily yesterday November 14th at roughly 3:00 pm. I had her do an Amazing Race type format around campus. She went from classroom to classroom that had some kind of significance. It all started after she got home from her Chemistry review she jumped into the shower to get ready for the day. I walked over to her apartment and talked to her roommates and told them to read Emily her first clue when she gets out of the shower. Her first clue said she had one hour to get ready for the day. Once she got ready she had to figure out the clue of where she was heading next.
Her roommate dropped her off on campus and Emily headed to her Anatomy/Molecular Biology classroom. Our mutual friend was there that said Anatomy 101 on the board. Emily played the game Operation with Amber and every bone or organ that Emily pulled out she had to say something interesting about that body part.
Emily then headed to her old German classroom where she had to put together a How-To that was randomly drawn. Her How-To was "How to write in cursive." She then had a German noun, verb, and adjective that she had to incorporate into her How-To. Her noun was boa constrictor, verb was to kiss, and her adjective was odorless. She did a great job from what I was told.
She then headed to her Chemistry classroom where my good friends Adam and Caleb were waiting with my little brother Wes. Caleb, Wes, and Emily were all contestants and Adam was the game show host. They played a game that is a mix between Who Wants to be a Millionaire and Jeopardy. Whomever won the game got a free meal to their favorite fast-food restaurant. Emily won...of course and I was kind of disappointed in Wes but it is all good ha ha ha.
Then Emily headed to her Book of Mormon classroom where her sister and brother-in-law were waiting. She had to act out her favorite Book of Mormon story and had to incorporate the props that her sister brought and she used her brother-in-law as one of the characters.
She ended in the classroom that we first met last semester in Calculus. I had written up a math problem that she had to do while I was hiding in the seats. As she tried to figure it out I popped out of the seats and went up there and talked to her. I then told her how much I loved her and then dropped down on one knee and asked her to marry me. She said yes and we are now engaged ha ha!!!

This was in the room with Amber and Emily having to play the game Operation.

I was going for a serious picture but it did not turn out like I wanted it too but still a funny picture nonetheless.

I AM HORRIBLE

Oh man I am horrible at updating this thing and I apologize to everyone that reads this or takes a look at it from time to time. Life is super busy with all of my classes, work, and spending as much time as possible with Emily. There has been a lot that has happened since school started, and I will do my best at recapping and putting up pictures. I feel bad about calling family and talking to them and letting them know what is going on in my life. I truly am sorry, it is not because I do not want to talk to my family it just has been so busy and hectic that I feel I have no time to do anything.

To start things off Emily and I got the All Sports Pass here at BYU, it means that we get to go to basically any sporting event for a flat fee that we payed in the beginning of August. We have gone to the FSU and CSU football games and the FSU game was very disappointing but the CSU game was exciting during the first quarter. We have had good seats for the most part for the games, they rotate every home football game so it is like Christmas every week when we find out where we are going to be sitting.

Emily's family came out for the CSU football game because it was family weekend and that was a lot of fun. We did not do a whole lot of studying which was nice. We went to a family dinner that was put on for the parents and the kids on Friday night and then on Saturday before the football game we went to a tailgate at the Hinckley Center. The weather was beautiful and amazing and everyone had a great time. Saturday morning we all went on a hike in Provo Canyon and it was so gorgeous I could not help myself in taking pictures.

Classes are going well, as most of you know I am taking German. I have always wanted to take German in high school but the teacher was not very good so I took French instead which was a big mistake looking back on it. German is fun because Emily is in 2nd year German so she helps me speak properly and with my grammar. What I find so hard is trying to learn grammar of another language when I do not understand or get English grammar ha ha. I am able to put together simple sentences and we are talking right now in the present tense so it is not too bad. Every 2 weeks we either have a quiz or a test and every 2 weeks we have a Rollenspiel, role play, with our professor. My teacher is cool he served his mission in Germany and our teacher is another student we do not actually get a professor teaching us till we hit the 300 level classes.

My other classes are going great I love my Doctrine and Covenants class I learn so much about that amazing set of scripture that I am going to treasure for a life-time. My math class is intense our teacher teaches us more on how to read a math book than actually lecturing us on how to do calculus. HEPE is going well, hard to get to class some days especially when it is pouring down rain at 8:00 am. Economics is going well, I have my first test on Tuesday and Wednesday and I am pretty nervous for it because my teacher is intense and I heard his tests are extremely hard so we will see how that goes. Next semester I am taking the next Calculus class, second half D&C, German 102, and a class with Emily and probably one more class.

Work is going well, I feel like I work so much but it is good because I need the money especially since I am saving for a ring ha ha. That is still weird to say some days, to think that I am actually going to be engaged soon, but I am excited for it though. That is about everything that is happening in my life and I am sorry again that I do not update this blog better I apologize and will do better I promise.

Wes's Homecoming

Wes my little brother came home from his mission last Friday. His homecoming was definitely good it had been almost four years since we last saw each other. When I said goodbye to Wes I told him I did not want to see him for four years because I wanted him on his mission before I came home. He served an honorable two year mission in Concepcion Chile. When he walked off the plane he kept commenting on how big everyone had gotten and he looks at me and goes, "You have gotten smaller!" We both had a good laugh over that. It was good seeing Wes and hearing about his experiences that he had in Chile. My favorite was how he described electric showers. Wes also sounded like a latino for the first couple of days and we all had a good laugh listening to his english and his grammar. He is an amazing guy and it is very nice having him home. I do not think he understands just how much I look up to him and admire him. If you looked at us side by side you would say Wes was the older sibling and I would agree with that statement. The way he acts and holds himself is something that I have always admired about him. He truly is an amazing younger brother and when I think of Wes I am always drawn to the story of Nephi in the Book of Mormon. I love him very much and I am grateful that we will be at school together this upcoming year so we can hang out and so I can finally see him play baseball in almost five years. Another cool part with Wes coming home was the opportunity of seeing all of my nieces and nephews. I love all of them and this trip was the first time that Luke actually came to me when I called him and he gave me a hug. Luke is Cari's son and he is the cutest kid ever with his sweet hair. Anyways enjoy the pictures. We also golfed at Deer Creek which was pretty sweet and I hit the ball pretty well for the first time in over a year.

About Time

Well I guess it is about that time to update my blog. I have no idea if anyone even checks this thing but nonetheless it needs to be updated. I found out that I did not get into either the accounting program or the management program at BYU. I have decided then to focus on my minor which I decided is going to be Economics and try to become a certified Actuary. I will be reapplying to the management school for next year and hopefully in three years I will have a Finance major, Econ minor, and I am a certified Actuary. I know lofty goals but I got to be diverse in this economic mess. To help me along in my school studies mom and dad and with the help of Cari and Seth found me a sweet laptop from Best Buy. I must say it was a steal it is an HP lots of memory and RAM and it has a web cam built in which is fabulous. Work is still there annoying but there. I am pretty fed up with Deer Creek and all of their antics. I do like working at LionsGate with Brent and Jacque again. You can see the difference in servers and management pretty quickly. Wes comes home in a few days and it will have been just about three years and nine months since I last saw him. I am so stoked to finally see him after this long time apart. The last memory I have of him is when I entered the MTC and we hugged we cried and I told him that I did not want to see him in four years. I am also excited to hear his latino accent and see if he can speak english again. Everything else is going well biking to work everyday has its upside my legs are getting better and the minimal fat that I did have on me is all gone so I am 2x's ripped. Life is good and I am excited to get back up to BYU so Emily and I can finally be together after this long summer. Loves all around.

Way Too Long

Well it has been way too stinking long since I last updated this. I moved back home because I could not find a job in Houston and I needed to start making some money for this upcoming school year. I have been working with my dad and at Deer Creek Golf Club where I have worked on and off since i was 16. Houston was amazing I loved every single minute I was there.

Emily's dog Buster looks like our beagle Sarge

Emily and I

Emily and I again

Deer Creek is going okay, they are super unorganized ever since they let Brent go about a year ago. At least it is hours and I am not complaining though, they have me working the outdoor grill where I stand there and cook up hamburgers for the golfers. If ya'll want a mean hamburger my skills are perfected ha ha ha.

I also found out about the accounting program and I did not get in. It sucks and it is hard to read when they say we regret to inform you, but whatever the reasoning behind it is what is best for me. I am hoping the management program lets me in and I will major in Finance and then later down the road get my MBA and then take the CPA exam. Thank you all for reading my essay, and editing it for me. Other than all of this life is good. Emily is good she is working a lot as a life guard and teaching swimming lessons. I miss her a lot and cannot wait to see her in the fall and go on some hot dates with her.

HOUSTON!!

Well I am in Houston and I am loving life. I like it here very green small skinny tall trees and the humidity is amazing. I love the heat and how humid it gets here. I am living with a family that lives basically right behind Emily's family. Every night I drive one of the cars over to this persons house and then I wake up in the morning and come back over and run errands look for jobs etc. I go to the pool almost everyday because Emily is a guard at a pool and her younger brother Michael and I go visit her for an hour or so. I am applying to golf courses and restaurants and whatever else comes my way. I will be putting up some pictures once i get some and since I have this new sweet camera that I got at Christmas I should take more pictures.

ACCOUNTING PROGRAM

A few days ago I found out some information about the accounting program at Brigham Young University (BYU). I am on the waiting list for the 2009-2010 school year. I got an email telling me that I needed to log into the Marriott School and check the status of my application and this is what the accounting program told me:

Thank you for your application to the School of Accountancy. The Admissions Committee has designated your application to be discussed in our admissions meeting scheduled for the week of July 6. Having your application assigned to this meeting is an important step in the admissions process because approximately 150 students will be admitted to the School of Accountancy during this meeting. We expect to send notices of final admissions decisions through email by July 15.

I am grateful for everyone that read and edited my essay. I know that it is because of my essay that the Admissions Committee decided to review my application in the meeting on July 6. Thank you all again and I am excited to hear what the decision is going to be in the middle part of July.

First One

Today I got my first sale while working at APX. Let me tell you this has been a very long and tedious process. I have knocked all day Saturday, Monday, Tuesday, and today (Wednesday) before I got this first sale. The sale came around 7:35 at night and I left the house around 8:45 while the techs were installing the security system. I am not sure how much detail I can go into but he was the coolest chillest guy I have ever met. He is a solid customer who will definitely use his system and it feels good that I have protected a family. It is a great feeling and I appreciate all the love and support that ya'll have given me.

GENERAL CONFERENCE

April 4-5 was the 179th Annual General Conference for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and I was able to go with my girlfriend Emily as well as a mission buddy Viray and his friend. It was amazing sitting at the feet of the Prophets and Apostles listening to them tell us what we need to do to better ourselves. For my Living Prophets class I was required to watch all sessions of Conference and it was amazing. I felt like I was serving my mission again. My favorite talks were both of President Eyring's and also Elder Jeffrey R Holland's talk. I love Conference and the opportunity that I have to go and listen to them.

We had really good seats

FESTIVAL OF COLORS

Yesterday was the Hindu holiday called Festival of Colors. I saw pictures of this event last year and I decided that I wanted to go to this. Emily called me yesterday and asked if I would want to go and of course I said yes. The throwing of colors started at 5:30, so we caught the bus at 3:00 and headed down to Spanish Fork. We walked around petted the llamas, saw some peacocks, and we saw zebu (it is a type of cow i think). We got our colors and waited for the announcer guy to tell us we could start throwing. I cannot even describe to you how much fun it was. We will definitely be hitting this up next year. Enjoy the pictures, and yes the powder did get everywhere ha ha ha. I still have it in my ears, and my clothes are now all dyed sweet colors. The purpose of the festival is to kill winter and to bring in spring. It was a lot of fun and I loved it.

MARCH MADNESS

Okay I know I am horrible at keeping my blog up to date and I am grateful for a family who are so patient with me and considerate. I appreciate how loyal they all are on checking my blog waiting for a new post, well here is the newest post of the Mitch Man's life. March Madness is in full swing and I love me some NCAA basketball. I love watching it on campus and having guys walk behind me all slow like so they can get a glimpse at the score and who is playing. I must say my bracket for the most part is looking good. I thought there were going to be more upsets in the first round but I must say I am doing well. I love me some KU Jayhawks but unfortunately I do not have them winning it all. For me it was between University of Louisville or University of North Carolina.

As for other news school is going well. I took an Accounting test this past week and got an amazing 97% on it, which is a huge improvement from the last time I took this class. I also took a calculus test and got an 85%, which I am happy with saying that the average was roughly a 68% so you might say I am ahead of the curve. I am working on my essays for both the accounting program and the management program. For my essays I need to talk about what is unique about me so if anyone has any suggestions let me know. Cari has told me my work ethic and sense of humor. Katie has told me about the pride I have in my speedo, which I do not think BYU would appreciate too well if I talked about that.

Emily is doing well. Her birthday is on Monday and I am not 100% sure what I am going to be doing for her but whatever it is will be amazing. We are doing well, she had 4 tests this past week in, calculus, German, chemistry, and New Testament. She has been busy but did very well on all of her tests.

Emily

As most of you know I have a girlfriend. Her name is Emily Murray. She was born in Orem and moved to Wichita Kansas when she was 4 years old. After her freshman year in high school her family moved to Houston Texas. She ran cross country, played soccer, and was a life guard at the neighborhood people. Her neighborhood as she has told me is huge. Last Saturday we went to the BYU vs. Utah basketball game where we won by 13 points, it was awesome and intense.

if you look closely you will Elder Robert D. Hales he is right in the middle very front of the bleachers in a black suit

Lent

Well I decided to become Catholic for 40 days and join in on the fun stuff of Lent. I decided to give up soda, all kinds. For the next 40 days I will not be drinking my Dr. Pepper or Pepsi but I am totally fine with that because soda is not the best for you anyways.

Roanoke Virginia

I found out yesterday on my birthday that I am selling in Roanoke Virginia for the summer. I am excited because it is a new place where there has been a lot of history. The summer selling starts April 28th and I am planning to get out there a few days early so I can get settled. The drive is roughly 30 hours from Provo, Utah and Kansas City is half way between Provo and Roanoke. Here are a few pictures of the city of Roanoke for everyone.

Deer Creek

Well when I was in town over Christmas and New Year I worked at Deer Creek where I have been working on and off since I was 16. January 3rd was probably one of my last times ever working there. Deer Creek took good care of me when I was in high school and also after. I appreciate all that they did for me. I made some amazing friends and here are pictures of my last night at Deer Creek.
